The Nine Lives of Chloe King is a new television show based on the book series of the same name (The Nine Lives of Chloe King - Liz Braswell) by Liz Braswell. It’s about a girl named Chloe King (Sklyer Samuels; The Stepfather) who on her 16th birthday finds herself developing special powers similar to that of a cat.  She soon finds that she is in danger from a group of assassins that want her dead as she is part of a special group of half-human half- god creatures called the Mai.  Now she must balance her life as a special creature who’s being hunted with her ordinary high school life and friends.

This is not a very good show.  That would be saying too much.  But it’s actually not as bad as you’d think.  It really is sort of lacking in the focus department and every episode is pretty much the same thing.  It’s pretty important to say that this is aimed at a young teen demographic, of which I am not even remotely a part of, so my judgement may vary wildly from the intended audience.

There’s a lot of things I find about this show that are very watchable though.  Although the dialogue is trying too hard to be witty Samuels is pretty good with what she’s given, and scenes with her and Chloe’s mom Amy Pietz are the highlight of the show.  The mother/daughter relationship is played really well by them both.  I initially enjoyed the character of Chloe’s friend Amy played by Grace Phipps but in more recent episodes it seems like she’s going in a different direction.  As for the Mai side of Chloe’s life I’m not really crazy about any of the casting there.

Overall it’s a decently watchable show, probably more-so for a teen that I wouldn’t be super quick to write off.  Think a very very dumb Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
