Perfect Couples is NBC’s latest sitcom and addition to it’s incredible Thursday night comedy line-up.  It’s got a pretty simple premise, it’s about a group of 3 couples and the funny situations they get into.

Does that premise sound at all interesting?  No?  Yeah it’s not.  I thought this had some potential as there were a couple of good ads and it has Mary Elizabeth Ellis aka “The Waitress” from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia as a lead.  But it’s really a pretty generic sitcom.  It’s trying to be wacky and funny and I have to say I have enjoyed a few scenes, but it’s really trying way too hard.  It’s like a black hole in the middle of a great lineup.  It’s NBC shooting themselves in the foot once again.

The worst thing about this show, besides it’s trying too hard to be funny and failing, is that it follows the excellent Community, which is probably the best show on television right now which pulls off complex comedy seemingly effortlessly (of course it’s anything but and that cast/crew works their asses off).  So you have this piece of genius followed by this generic show that’s just repeating old relationship jokes that have been made forever and isn’t breaking any new ground.  This should be stuck back next to the “Why isn’t this cancelled yet?” Outsourced, which NBC at least placed at the end of it’s line-up so it’s easy to skip.

I’m gonna recommend you take a pass on this unless they bring on some really funny writers and make this more original.
