The main plot of Continuum is pretty easy to grasp. Future people must live in the present day with their future knowledge. There’s a lot there to mine. So far the show has kept it simple though. As much as anything it focuses on being a fairly normal show about cops looking for criminals. The sci-fi element is there but it’s light. Nichols’ character has a special suit that can do all sorts of things as well as a computer in her head, this allows her to talk to a young hacker (Knudsen; Scott Pilgrim vs The World) who can see what she sees and can assist with her investigations. Little does he know he has a big part to play in the future.
From the beginning of the first episode this show just felt very familiar. Most of this is because it shoots in Vancouver (and admits to it, unlike most shows) so the scenery was familiar as well as many of the cast who regularly appear on many other shows. Other than that there’s the way the show is generally plotted that feels familiar as well. It’s not really breaking any ground. That said it is entertaining.
I enjoy Nichols a lot and her banter with Knudsen is great. There’s a lot to like about Continuum and I’d like to see it brought to the US on SyFy. For now only Canada gets it, but if you’re there then be sure to check it out.
