Hype! is a 1996 documentary by the great Doug Pray (his first feature). It’s an in depth look at the northwest rock explosion, otherwise known as grunge. It uses the people who are/were there to really tell the true story that normally you wouldn’t get from what was essentially a very closed off community. This happens to be one of my favorite films of all time and that’s why I’m writing about it here. First check out the trailer:
I could have made a huge list of great shows of 2009, but instead decided to just go with my number one pick and explain why it’s so great. This is of course only choosing from new in 2009-2010 season shows.
I have to say though the pickings were thin this year, even so Community had a serious run for its money in my choosing it to both:
and
Both are worthy adversaries but Community is just a great show. Here’s why:
That is Garfunkel & Oates aka songwriter/actresses Riki Lindhome (blonde one)and Kate Micucci (brunette). They’re a comedy-folk duo who have released the album “Music Songs”. And this is a post about how awesome they are. Below the cut I’m gonna have a ton of YouTube videos so you’ve been warned. It’s so worth it though you will laugh for hours.
Alyson Greenfield is a singer/guitarist/pianist from Brooklyn by way of Alabama. Here’s my attempt to explain why you should definitely check her out. continue reading…
Castle is one of those shows that it would be easy to miss. In a tv landscape oversaturated with procedurals of every kind, one more little cop show airing Mondays at 10pm on ABC is certainly easy to skip right over. It’s not the most advertised show, and it started midseason last year (well this year but we’re talking tv years here). But there’s plenty of reasons to be watching it and skipping over some of the lamer contenders in the category.
“Psych” just concluded it’s fall finale last Friday and I thought it was appropriate to take a look back and show those of you that aren’t yet in total love with this show the error of your ways. I can’t really blame you if you haven’t seen the show. First it airs on Friday nights, when most people are out. We all know Friday night’s are death for a tv show. (moment of silence for all the great shows we’ve lost on Fridays) Also it’s on USA, a network known primarily for showing re-runs of Law & Order almost 24/7. But this quirky comedy drama (not a dramedy) is unlike anything on tv…except maybe one show… continue reading…
Today’s recommendation is for not one but 2 songs off of Pearl Jam’s “Backspacer” album. I’d actually recommend the entire album as it’s great, but these two songs are special stand outs. continue reading…
Today we’re launching the recommendation part of the site. I though it fitting to choose an album I recommend to everyone I meet. That album is “Super Extra Gravity” by The Cardigans. You’re probably familiar with The Cardigans for their song “Lovefool” which was on the soundtrack to “Romeo & Juliet”, but they’re so much more than that. SEG came out in the US in 2006, a decade after their Romeo & Juliet fame had faded and was their last album, you can however find singer Nina Persson currently touring with her new band A Camp.
