Another week another episode of The Real World.  This week we finally get to see some of Josh’s music skills and meet Mike’s family.  Also Erika remains whiney.  Let’s get started.

This episode starts with Mike meeting his local Congressman from Colorado, Jared Polis.  It turns out he is the first openly gay elected congressman.  Mike says he never considered politics as a career before but is getting more interested in it.  Mike confesses his mom told him he should hide “parts of himself” while on the show (read: don’t say your gay) to protect his future.  But now he has a role model.  Also he takes a picture of a picture for some reason:

Last week we were teased with cute, adorable, thinks she can sing Erika saying she wants to go home on the “Next on…”  But when I went to DVR this there was no aftershow so safe assumption is that she didn’t.  However I got my wish for a big Erika episode.  You know how they say be careful what you wish for?  Yeah…

I am so sorry I’m over a week late on this one.  I got very busy.  It’s no excuse though.  Anyway when we left off we were teased that this week would feature Andrew losing his shit in a potentially violent way and I called shenanigans.  I was right.  This whole episode is all about Ashley being annoying.  However it is free of Ty and Emily drama so yay!

The episode starts with Ashley and Andrew chilling in the hot tub and of course Andrew is fooling around.

Ashley says she wants him to open up her because he has with everyone else in the house.  Andrew says he hasn’t opened up to anyone.

We’re only 5 episodes into this season, but for some reason it seems so much more than that doesn’t it?  Last week’s “Next on…” seemed to promise an episode focusing a lot on Erika and also some Josh getting into girl trouble.  Last week’s “Next on…” lied.  I am very angry Real World.  I wanted a ton of Erika and you gave me more Emily and Ty crap?  Not even new Emily and Ty stuff but the same stuff that’s been said in every other episode just again?  I hate you Real World.  I hate you so hard.  So yeah there’s a lot of Emily and Ty being Emily and Ty and not adding anything new to that story at all so I’m gonna not recap them in this episode.  I hope no one has a problem with that.  If you do, go read the recaps of the other episodes and you’ll have the same stuff as is here.  Repeated ad nauseum.  Also for the very first time on Media Decay I’m gonna try to bring you some video on this post.  Let me know if it’s working alright for you.

The episode starts with Josh talking to his girlfriend Ashley.  She misses him and is apparently coming to visit soon.  Josh confesses she came along at a time in his life where he was losing everything and just made it better.

Yay time for another recap of The Real World: D. C. Episode 4 is actually mostly what was promised to us in the “Next On…” last week.  It’s also a welcome break from Emily & Ty all the time.

So the episode starts off rather confusingly at a pool.  I’m all like are they showing the wrong season or something?  What did I miss?  Turns out it’s a hotel pool that they’re all hanging at.  Then it’s dark 2 seconds later and they’re still at the pool.  But now Andrew is making out with some girl.

Emily confesses she sometimes thinks he’s a virgin because he has no game and doesn’t know how to interact with girls properly.  2 seconds later he’s trying to hook up with another girl, then the first girl is like “that’s my best friend” and they both storm off.

It’s time again for another recap of The Real World D. C. This is the 3rd episode and sorry for the delay but I practically had to hack into MTV to get screengrabs for this.  So here we go.

We were lead to believe by last week’s “next week on” that this week would be all about Emily and Ty, but we were lied to!  In fact this episode is all about self image, specifically female self image issues and dealing with that.  But we’ll have some serious discussion of that a little later on.

If you remember last time we left our Real Worlders Ty and Emily were mid-coitus.  This episode picks up the next morning.  Emily and Ty are messing around on the computer upstairs and Erika, Andrew, and Ashley are in Andrew & Emily’s room.  Andrew says she slept in the room last night.  This leads to awesomeness from Erika:

Ka-pow!  Ashley says the proof is that she’s happy today.  In the after show we learned Ashley also heard “noises” during the night.  When asked outright this is the faces they make:

I have for some reason decided it’ll be fun to recap this entire season of The Real World.  This season is the 23rd and is set in Washington DC.  I loved The Real World when I was younger and watched that and Road Rules all the time.  Then I grew out of MTV, and well MTV grew out of MTV and many seasons of both shows passed me by (PS if anyone knows where I can find old first couple of seasons Road Rules online I’d be very grateful).  Also they started those stupid RW/RR challenge shows that were absurd and I still don’t get at all.  But last summer with nothing to watch I remembered that not too long ago they set a Real World season in my home of Brooklyn, NY so I went on MTV’s website and discovered they had that whole season.  I actually enjoyed it so I watched a couple more.  Hollywood and Cancun mostly.  So now I’m watching this season as it airs. PS keep in mind you can click on any picture to get a full sized view of it.

The thing about a season of The Real World is you can never really tell if it’s going to be any good.  It’s a crapshoot.  But the first episode is always the best.  So without further delay I bring you The Real World: D.C.

In general I can go either way with reality tv.  I enjoy scripted television a lot more but sometimes there’s a mindless quality to reality tv that’s needed.  Usually though I find myself pointing out everything that is in some way fake (I briefly worked on a very famous reality show and I can’t help it).  That said over this past summer when there was really nothing on I found myself turning like I often do to shows I’d not watched over the previous season and somehow even really ran out of those and wound up with a crazy case of insomnia during which I’d stay up all night and marathon whole seasons of various reality shows, things like the Brooklyn Real World (which I kinda really liked) and WGA Ultimate Gamer (which I found on Hulu and totally loved and pray for a second season of).  During one of these sessions I discovered Tool Academy.
