You Again is a comedy about a girl who was a geek in high school (Kristen Bell) who comes home for her brother’s wedding only to discover that his fiancee is in fact the mean girl who taunted her all throughout high school (Odette Yustman).  Things are further complicated when the fiancee’s aunt happens to be the mom’s high school best friend turned rival as well.  The two sets of rivals compete more and more as the wedding approaches.

The first thing you notice about this movie is that it has a great cast.  Kristen Bell is a magical little pixie of awesomeness.  Then you have Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kristen Chenowith, and Victor Garber, as well as Betty White. Also Odette Yustman who previously did the horrible The Unborn is perfect for the role of a bitchy cheerleader/queen bee.  So with all of these actors all put together this movie should be great.  It’s not.

I’m not sure who is to blame for that.  It’s obvious that the cast are all trying to do a good job.  The performances aren’t phoned in.  But this whole film just tries too hard and falls flat.  It’s a comedy that’s just not funny.  I’m not sure if it’s the fault of the script which is filled with jokes that hypothetically could be funny or just poor directing.  Or maybe it’s just all been done before so much that I couldn’t bring myself to be amused.

There’s also a weird shoehorning of a romantic subplot for Bell that is so backburner and unnecessary it should have been cut entirely.

Overall I’d skip this.  It’s just not good, despite the cast and actually trying to be.
