Burlesque is the story of a young woman from a small town (Christina Aguilera), who goes to L.A. to make it.  She winds up inside a burlesque club where she has an instant connection to the bartender (Cam Gigandet) and has to win over the owner (Cher) and manager (Stanley Tucci).  She also has to face the club’s star played by Kristen Bell and if that’s not enough the club is in danger from a real estate developer (Eric Dane) and the owner’s ex-husband (Peter Gallagher) wants to sell his half of the club.  It’s written and directed by Steve Antin.

If you just read that and thought that it sounded familiar, it’s because it is.  Burlesque is a bunch of other movies and bad hollywood cliche’s thrown together. You’ve got Coyote Ugly, Crossroads, Fame, and like a billion other movies all stuck in there.  You can literally guess the next thing to happen exactly, if not the exact line about to be said.

This movie is super bad.  No work could have possibly gone into the vapid script, and the acting is incredibly phoned in, even by actors I love like Kristen Bell.  It seems like they just took the worst thing they could find and stuck Christina Aguilera and some musical numbers into it, along with a bunch of names and faces that audiences would recognize.

There’s even technical problems with the movie oddly crossing the line randomly, and not in a stylistic way.

However even after all of this I’m going to recommend this movie.  It’s so unintentionally bad that it’s hilarious.  You will spend every moment of this movie laughing at it’s horribleness.  It’s so bad it’s good.  I suggest getting a large group of friends together and having an awesome evening with this.  Make sure to bring some alcohol.
