Is Everybody Hanging Out Without Me? (and Other Concerns) is the first book from TV writer and actress Mindy Kaling, who you probably know best from The Office.  It’s comprised of a series of autobiographical essays in the vein of Tina Fey’s Bossypants or Sarah Silverman’s The Bedwetter.  The stories range from her childhood, to living in NYC, to her work on The Office.

Mindy Kaling is not her character on The Office, in fact she devotes an entire chapter to the differences, but she is pretty girly and that girlyness flows through this book.  There’s things like dressing tips and what she’s looking for in men.  But as a guy I still found the book interesting.  Since Kaling’s life is mostly her work there’s a ton of interesting stuff about that.

Some of my favorite parts were based on her work.  Like “How I Write” detailing her writing process.  There’s also a particularly good chapter where she talks about how she is quick to get into fights at work about her writing and one memorable incident revolving around it.  There’s some more great stuff like the types of girls in romantic comedies that don’t exist in real life.

Overall the book is really light and fun and a super quick read.  If you enjoy her work on The Office or her Twitter feed, then you should pick up a copy of this.
