Artist: Garfunkel & Oates
Genre: Comedy, Singer/Songwriter
Garfunkel & Oates, the comedic duo made up of Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci are back with a new album. With a ton of new songs along with a couple of classics, this is something I’ve been looking forward to. Let’s get right into it.
Wow is a quick intro song that kicks it all off with some epic-ness and a little bit of self esteem for the day.
Go Kart Racing is a hilarious song that’s super catchy and based on a true story about going go kart racing and having the vibration of the kart accidentally cause some masturbating. You’ll probably walk around singing this like a crazy person for a few weeks after hearing this, but that’s true of pretty much this entire album.
I Don’t Know Who You Are‘s title pretty much sums up it’s subject. I really liked this one. It’s got some hilarious examples of ways you could make yourself stand out.
Handjob, Blandjob, I Don’t Understand Job G&O pull out the 80′s synths and beats for this one and rap about not knowing how to give handjobs. I didn’t know this was a common problem, but apparently it is. This is a great rap that you will have stuck in your head forever whether you want it there or not.
Save The Rich brings the sarcasm out. It’s a truly epic ballad about how important it is in this economy to help out those who matter the most – the rich. I’m pretty sure you have to love this.
Hey Girl In The Moonlight is one of my favorite songs on Slippery When Moist. It’s about how awkward it must be to be a girl having a guy serenading her. It’s a funny take on one of those cliches that’s everywhere.
The Ex-boyfriend Song I’ll leave for you to hear for yourself.
Silver Lining and I Would Never (Have Sex With You) are Garfunkel & Oates classics that’re on their Music Songs (
).
Google slows it down and takes it back to 80′s ballad town to discuss googling someone. It’s got some great lyrics like “ring ring ring ring ring ring, cell phones in the 80′s” and “How else would you know my dog has herpes?” It’s another one of my favorite tracks off this album. It’s not super catchy but it is hilarious.
I Would Never (Dissect A Ewe) finds Garfunkel & Oates parodying themselves and doing a complete song about science that manages to still be funny.
My Apartment’s Very Clean Without You is a serious post-breakup song. And a really good one. Anyone who’s gone through a breakup I think can relate to this one, even though it’s aimed at a guy moving out, I found it can apply universally. It’s super sad and lovely.
Go closes the album with some more epic-ness and self esteem. The best way to end an album.
Overall there isn’t a weak link on this album. I could have done without the repeats of Silver Lining and I Could Never (Have Sex With You), but it you don’t own those songs already (why not?) then you’ll love them. The songs are all super catchy and funny. Slippery When Moist comes out on February 21 via all the usual music sites and you’ll find links right below this paragraph. Garfunkel & Oates are in the process of making a pilot for HBO and are taping a Comedy Central special soon so they’ll be everywhere in a couple of months. So you should probably be cooler than your friends and discover how great they are now. So what are you waiting for? Buy it already!
