The Sorcerers Apprentice – Movie Review

The Sorcerers Apprentice is a new Disney released film from producer Jerry Bruckheimer.  It’s loosely based on the bit in Fantasia, and I do mean loosely.  There is one misplaced scene with dancing mops.  Anyway, it’s directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure 2, While You Were Sleeping) and is about a kid who gets sucked into a war between sorcerers going back thousands of years.  It stars Jay Baruchel (Undeclared, Tropic Thunder), Nicolas Cage (The Rock, National Treasure), and Alfred Molina (Spiderman 2, Magnolia).

I don’t know what to say about this movie.  I’m still not quite sure why I even watched this movie.  This is an incredible waste of time and money.  It’s filled with TV-grade CGI and a retarded plot involving a russian nesting doll.  Obviously they cut some big paychecks because I cannot figure out why else Jay Baruchel and Alfred Molina are in this.  It’s just an incredibly paint by numbers plot that seems to drag on forever with nothing happening.

Basically this movie is the definition of “phoning it in”.  From everyone involved.  It seems the sole saving grace is love interest Teresa Palmer, who while she doesn’t quite fulfill the “girlfriend effect” I look for in love interests, she does do an admirable job and it seems hollywood is trying to groom her for bigger parts.

Anyway I’ll keep this short because there’s nothing else to say.  Basically save your time and money.  Stay away from this disaster.
