The Real World D. C. – Episode 8 Recap

Real World Title

Another week another episode of The Real World.  This week we finally get to see some of Josh’s music skills and meet Mike’s family.  Also Erika remains whiney.  Let’s get started.

Mike meets Jared Polis

This episode starts with Mike meeting his local Congressman from Colorado, Jared Polis.  It turns out he is the first openly gay elected congressman.  Mike says he never considered politics as a career before but is getting more interested in it.  Mike confesses his mom told him he should hide “parts of himself” while on the show (read: don’t say your gay) to protect his future.  But now he has a role model.  Also he takes a picture of a picture for some reason:

Mike is dumb

Meanwhile, Josh is meeting with a drummer who’s cd he liked.  He wants to get a band started.  There’s a lot of “yeah man” and stuff like that.  Both seem borderline retarded.

Out in the park

Then while the gang takes a stroll through a park they run into a couple of buskers and Erika is convinced this must become her band.  They look like kids.

Mike and Eric

Mike is hanging out with Eric at a gay gym.  They work out.  It’s pretty boring.  Later that night back at the house he talks to Erika and tells her being with Eric makes him realize how much he misses Tanner (his bf back home).  So he calls Tanner, but Tanner doesn’t answer.

Mike on the phone with Meg

Meghan, Mike and Tanner’s mutual friend answers.  She says Tanner doesn’t want to talk to him.  Apparently he’s heartbroken and this whole open relationship isn’t easy for him.  Who could have imagined that would have been a bad idea?  Anyway the next day Mike writes Tanner a big emotional e-mail telling him how he feels about him.

Erika checks her e-mail

Erika is supposed to practice with her new “band” at 9am.  Who practices at 9 in the morning?  That’s craziness.  Anyway they send her an e-mail saying one of their cars broke down and the other is sick.  She takes this as them blowing her off.  She does not even for a second consider that they actually can’t make it.  You know especially when she later admits they contact her again to set up another practice and she ignores them.  Anyway for now she calls and wakes up her boyfriend and complains to him.

Josh's band

It’s time to meet Josh’s band.  Josh says a whole bunch of stuff that makes absolutely no sense at all so I can’t even tell you what the hell he’s talking about.  Then they get down to playing.  It’s pretty terrible.  Josh cannot sing at all.

Tanner calls

Tanner calls Mike that night in response to his e-mail.  He says he’s still planning on visiting.

Mike's Family

Mike’s family visits.  His brother, mom, sister, and sister’s friend.  He gives them a tour of the house.  But we’ll see more of them later.  We’ve gone a few minutes without someone being crazy so clearly it’s time.

Erika again

Erika calls her boyfriend and gasp there is a girl over with a whole bunch of people.  Instantly Erika’s crazy girl kicks in.  She’s suddenly convinced he’s cheating on her.  Literally just because she hears a bunch of people in the background and one person is a girl which he admits to.

Erika bitches to Ashley

Erika goes and bitches to Ashley who is unsympathetic.  She counters that they’re around guys all the time and Ashley is like “yeah but one has a boyfriend and one’s gay” and she doesn’t get to finish because the person Ashley is playing pool with is Mike’s brother who cuts in and corrects her and says he’s bisexual.

He's not gay

Ashley and Erika both sort of giggle and Ashley is like “there’s some things you have to get over”.  Erika gets out of the conversation saying she’s just counting him as gay for the sake of this situation.  This makes for a perfect segway to the next scene where the gang and Mike’s brother are all going to the club together.

That’s where this happens:

Callie and Mike makeout

Mike just randomly starts making out with Callie.  The reaction from the rest of the girls is priceless.

make out reaction

Erika sums it up nicely:

I love you Mike, but you like boys.

We’re about halfway through the episode so let’s continue this on Page 2
