The Real World D. C. – Episode 6 Recap

Real World Title

I am so sorry I’m over a week late on this one.  I got very busy.  It’s no excuse though.  Anyway when we left off we were teased that this week would feature Andrew losing his shit in a potentially violent way and I called shenanigans.  I was right.  This whole episode is all about Ashley being annoying.  However it is free of Ty and Emily drama so yay!

The episode starts with Ashley and Andrew chilling in the hot tub and of course Andrew is fooling around.

ashley and andrew in hot tub

Ashley says she wants him to open up her because he has with everyone else in the house.  Andrew says he hasn’t opened up to anyone.

The next day the girls all go for a walk and Callie takes pictures and talks about photography.

Emily says she wants to see her live up to her potential.  Back at the house Callie explains to us that The Washington Blade has an opening for a photography internship.  That’s a gay newspaper.  Callie is very straight.  Ruh Roh!  She calls anyway and leaves a voicemail that she would like to meet for the position.  Is anyone really on the edge of their seat wondering if she gets this job or not?  Because a lot of this episode it about that.  I really hope you’re not in suspense.  Would a newspaper take free advertising in the form of being featured prominently on The Real World?  I don’t know.

hitting the town

That night they all go out, cause that’s what they do.  Andrew starts dancing/making out with a girl who looks a lot like Snooki.  Cross promotion anyone?  Anyway the other girls give him disgusted looks cause the girl is kinda gross or as Callie puts it “tacky”.  Callie says he’s just desperate to get laid but she doesn’t think it’s going to happen.

Out on the street she says she has to go home.  Andrew is trying everything in his power to get laid.  He convinces her to go see the house but she doesn’t even go inside.  She gives him her number and leaves.

I’m just trying to get some ass.

Immortal words from Andrew.  He consoles himself by lying on Callie’s wonderful breasts.

She’s all like no, get off.  So he does.  You can say many things about Andrew but he’s mainly goofing off and not trying to cause any drama or do any harm.  This is important to understand for later.  Ashley and Andrew get into a little argument when she says she doesn’t feel bad for him because she hasn’t gotten laid either and he says she thinks she’s hot but she’s not and then she says he’s not hot either and he says he never claimed to be.  That’s the entire fight.

Ashley says she’s sick of Andrew’s shit.  Callie is all like “What did he do?”  Ashley says that “he snaps” and Callie is all like whatever you two were just talking shit to each other and goofing around.  Nothing happened.  Apparently in Ashley’s mind something did though.  Callie confesses that Andrew has never had to deal with confrontation and doesn’t know how.  Everyone wants to play psychiatrist.  She does say that the unknown in the equation is Ashley because she’s unpredictable (read: crazy).

Human Rights Campaign

We get a break from Ashley being crazy when it’s the next day and Mike shows us around his job at the Human Rights Campaign that he got all those episodes back and was never mentioned again.  He shows it to Andrew and Ty.  Apparently he’s working to help get rid of “don’t ask don’t tell”.  This is oddly timely.  But I’m happy that someone on this is using their being followed around by a camera for some good.  They have a discussion about how a lot of people are unfairly discharged from the military.  This is an informative and interesting conversation that I’m glad MTV didn’t edit out.

Mike talks to his boyfriend

Back at home Mike talks to his boyfriend back at home, Tanner.  He tells Tanner about his job and tells him he’s excited to have him come and meet everyone.  He talks a little about his relationship with Tanner.  Remember Tanner was smart and told Mike he can do whatever he wants during the show recording.  Mike confesses he has to think about where he is right now in his life, whether he wants a relationship at all.

Callie assembles her portfolio

Callie is assembling her portfolio because the guy from the newspaper e-mailed her to set up an interview. She’s very excited.  Also Callie appears to own like 2 shirts.  She seriously wears that yellow and grey striped shirt constantly.  It’s a nice shirt and it looks great on her, but wow she wears that a lot.  She must be the editors dream.  She also wears it in like every single confessional interview.

Now it’s that night.  Callie is complaining over pizza that she needs to get started on her resume and it’s already past 2.  Holy shit.  I mean I know all about staying up late before something early the next morning but you at least try to sleep.  It’s 2 and she’s partying and eating pizza.  Callie says she’s never needed a resume before and what has stopped her is she doesn’t really have any experience to put on one.

Callie stares at the computer

So she does the natural thing and just stares at the computer, hoping it will magically write a resume for her I assume.  She is interrupted by a scream.

Ashley and Andrew play fight

It’s Ashley play fighting with Andrew.  Apparently because she’s a grownup she took pizza and tore it up and put it on his pillow.  Cause that’s funny when you have a mental age of 4.  So he takes the same pizza and throws it on her bed and now they are play fighting.  Ashley is totally giggling and laughing through the whole thing but in the confessional she says she isn’t playing and this is very serious.  Wow first of all YOU STARTED THE WHOLE THING! Mike who is in the same room is like I didn’t help you because you were laughing.  Because it was clearly a joking situation, not serious.  But uh oh here comes crazy Ashley.

A few minutes later Ashley goes to clean up pizza boxes and Andrew knocks them out of her hands then chases her and pretends to be super mad for about a second before he smiles and is like “just kidding”.  Ashley now thinks she’s being threatened.  Even though she was smiling.  Literally nothing happened, also she started this whole cycle of play fighting  by putting pizza in his bed.

serious Ashley

Ashley talks to Callie and says that if he can push her (he really didn’t push her in any sort of serious or malicious way, it was goofy playing) then he could think it’s ok to punch her and she’s seen this before from her past.  Callie keeps a serious face but it’s obvious she’s thinking this is nuts.  She says it’s not in Andrew to hit a girl.  Ashley says she can’t sleep at the house that night.

She then goes and talks to everyone about it.  Andrew of course can hear the whole conversation from his room.  He heads back upstairs and apologizes and says he’s sorry she feels that way but she’s exaggerating everything.  My favorite part is after she leaves for the hotel Emily is all like “Seriously?”  Like absolutely no one is on Ashley’s side.
