Friday Night Lights Season 4 Episode 9 – The Lights In Carroll Park Recap

Another week another Friday Night Lights recap. This weeks episode is very “save the rec center”-esque. There’s some great stuff though. Alright so let’s get going and learn all about Carroll Park.
The episode starts with Vince (Juvie) applying for a job.
This doesn’t go so well because he’s been arrested a whole bunch of times. But there’s a lot going on in the beginning of this episode so let’s quickly move to the next scene.
What’s that? Becky is on the phone with the pregnancy test company asking how reliable the tests are? Uh oh. The good news for her is they tell her she should take another test cause sometimes they’re not accurate. Also can you actually phone the manufacturer of pregnancy tests to ask them things like this?
Umm… Oops. Looks like Becky is in trouble. In the meantime Coach is out in East Dillon (aka the ghetto) looking for one of his players who hasn’t shown up for a few practices. He’s told to look in Carroll Park. Apparently Carroll Park is not a very nice place however. Oh also we’re back to the whole East Dillon is the worst place on earth thing again. I thought we were over this.
While Coach is there there’s gunshots and everyone goes running.
Holy shit FNL! You have a pregnant teenager and a little kid being shot before the opening credits! Anyway it’s now Coach’s mission in life to save all of these kids. Cause that’s what Coach does. We’re given a brief reprieve with this bit of an awkward moment:
Also this week Julie is not being a whiny baby like last week. She’s back to the old Julie we all love. Her mom somehow talked her into volunteering for habitat for humanity.
Julie is clearly not made for the whole building houses thing. It is for this reason she tiles the closet instead of the bathroom.
Anyway, now that Juvie trusts Coach so much (remember the gun thing? Yeah I know that feels like it was a while ago.) he goes to him to ask him for help getting a job and explains how no one wants to hire him because of his arrest record.
And finally we get back to Becky who tells her baby-daddy Luke that he is going to be a baby-daddy, or actually not since she’s already decided she’s having an abortion and just needs money. Luke shows no signs of pill abuse nor injury so maybe they forgot about that whole thing. His reaction is understandable.
OK so Coach asked Buddy to help him out with the one thing he thinks he might be able to accomplish, getting the lights turned on in Carroll Park. He thinks this will solve a lot of the problem. Buddy tells Virgil (Jesse’s dad/BBQ joint owner) about this and Virgil is all like “you’re gonna get your ass kicked”.
He tells him he knows someone who might be able to help though.
Back at Habitat For Humanity, the day is over and Julie gets asked out by a cute guy. She turns him down for the date and tells him she’s damaged goods. But then she proposes they skip dating and just make out. Seriously.
Of course that guy isn’t an idiot so it’s makeout time. Julie should really talk to Becky.
Anyway back to the mission to make Carroll Park safe. Virgil takes the gang to meet D’Angelo Barksdale (back from the dead).
Seriously though, now they have D’Angelo and Wallace in the same show! Reunited! FNL is totally going for the proper talent pool. If you don’t understand what I’m saying then you should purchase thisright now. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Anyway I can’t remember his FNL character name but he tells them that they need more than to turn on the lights. They need to totally reform the entire neighborhood basically. Buddy suggests a football game and Virgil thinks it’s a good idea. I don’t know how this will save the neighborhood, but apparently it will.
Virgil has been hard at work because he also tells Coach he’ll give Juvie (who previous to this was not even allowed in his restaurant he hates him so much) a job. So that happens:
The one condition is he stay away from his daughter. There’s a whole plotline with a love triangle with Landry, Jess, and Juvie but it’s not very interesting. Just letting you know. Jess basically hates him and he seems upset by her dating Landry and eventually Landry confronts him and he seems like he’s alright with it.
But Juvie’s employment isn’t without problems though. Some of his “friends” come by and want free food and he won’t give it to them cause he’s reformed now and trying to be honest. There’s almost a fight but then there isn’t. Besides it’s time for football.
The lights are still out in Carroll Park. So Coach does the only thing he can. Breaks into where the switch is. I don’t know why no one did this much earlier.
The lights are on! Yay the rec center is saved! A football game is played. The Lions vs random people from the neighborhood. Juvie almost gets in a fight with one of the people he almost got in a fight with earlier but that whole thing seems to just go away. Everyone has a good time, nothing goes wrong, and Coach even finds a prospect for next season:
So I guess that went well.
Back in the land of sadness, Becky finally tells Riggins she’s pregnant.
He doesn’t really know what to say so he just holds her. Roll credits.
Wow so that episode actually flew by. I know this recap seems a little rushed, sorry. I did cover all the bases though. There’s only 4 episodes left this season and then we roll into the final(?) season. Also this season premieres on NBC in April I believe.
Please remember that this site is supported by our affiliates and if you like these recaps at all then please check out the awesome FNL stuff at the NBCU store:
They have a ton of awesome stuff there and they’ll be selling Lions gear soon. Seriously though how is your life complete without a Dillon Panthers shirt?
