TV

So this version of our Holiday Must Have list is dedicated to cool TV stuff.  Most of these are boxed sets of various tv shows we highly recommend.  Movies will come either later today or tomorrow.

The Wire Complete Series So most of the stuff in this post isn’t going to be brand new this year, but since this is our first year we figure we’ll catch you up with awesome stuff we feel everyone should have. Here is one of the best shows of all time completely collected in one set. Owning this whole series allows you to watch just how well this thing plays out over seasons and the entire course of the series. It’s a thing of beauty.

Homicide: The Complete Series Based on a book written by The Wire’s creator, who later became a writer on this show, Homicide is sort of a prequel to The Wire and the two go well together. This is the repackaged version of this set, but it still is a super complete set, and this repackaged version is super cheap. You get all the seasons, plus extras, plus two Law & Order episodes that tie in with the series, and the Homicide movie that was released after the show was canceled. This is a set that even if you aren’t familiar with the show you should get, especially for any The Wire fans.

Lost Season 5 The Dharma Initiation Kit Blu-Ray This is a special collectors edition of Lost Season 5 that comes out this Tuesday. This is a perfect gift for a Lost fan. It’s in a special package and contains a VHS of a Dharma video, all sorts of Dharma stickers and patches, booklets, and a Geranimo Jackson record. It’s just packed full of awesome stuff for the Lost fan, but since it is priced more than the regular Season 5 they might not buy it for themselves. Also the blu-ray of this version and the regular version features Lost University, which uses BD-Live to actually provide courses in many of the subjects Lost covers. This kit is also available in DVD

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Chosen Collection This is the entire series of Buffy all collected, plus a bonus disc that features the writers talking about some of their favorite moments and a special note from mastermind Joss Whedon. This is a set everyone should own. These episodes are like crack and even if you’ve never seen Buffy before, you’ll fly through the series in a few days of marathoning.

Firefly The Complete Series Blu-Ray While we’re on Joss Whedon, let’s discuss this other work of genius that had people saying “Joss Whedon is my master now”. This space opera is one of the best series of all time and didn’t even make it a full season. If you’ve got a Browncoat (Firefly fan) on your list and they’ve just got a blu-ray player they’ll want this. The episodes shine on Blu-Ray and there’s a couple of extra features and 2 new commentary tracks. The original complete series is also available on DVD

Veronica Mars If you’ve got someone who’s a Buffy fan on your list then they’ll probably love Veronica Mars. Hell everyone loves Veronica Mars. It’s one of the smartest, most entertaining shows on the past decade. It only ran for 3 seasons and you can buy them individually or Amazon sells a 3 pack. You can select which you want through the slideshow thingy above.

Battlestar Galactica The Complete Series Blu-Ray This one is new this year. It’s the entire new Battlestar Galactica. All 4 seasons plus extras and the Razor movie all in wonderful HD. It’s a great show and this special packaging in a cylon head looks great on a shelf. This is also available in regular DVD

BSG: The Plan Blu-Ray If you wanna top off that BSG fan on your list’s collection, there’s this movie “The Plan”. It’s the series from the point of view of the Cylons written by Jane Espenson and directed by Edward James Olmos. It doesn’t come with the complete series because it came out afterwards, but it’s excellent and worth adding to a collection. Also on regular DVD

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: A Very Sunny Christmas I wrote a whole post about this special DVD only release and it’s really the perfect Christmas gift, or pre-Christmas purchase if you’re going to have a group of adults over for a holiday party. Also available on Blu-ray (for $2 less than the regular dvd for some reason).

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Seasons 1-4 While we’re on the subject of It’s Always Sunny, why not catch up a friend with the entire series so far? This set includes the first 4 seasons (season 5 wraps up this Thursday). Hours of laughing till you puke await you.

It’s Always Sunny T-shirts While searching for the links on Amazon I discovered they also sell a literal shitload of various amazing Sunny T-shirts. I put some of them in the gallery above (click to buy and see sizes and stuff), but there’s way more on the Amazon site.

So I’ve hit up a bunch of cool TV stuff that I recommend. Next up we’ll enter movie land and our final post will be pretty much everything not covered elsewhere. I hope if you like any of this stuff you choose to buy through our links and support the site.
