Well we’re here again with another episode of Friday Night Lights to recap.  “Stay” is currently my choice for episode of the season and this couldn’t hold a flame to it, but it was pretty decent.  There’s some character building going on, but I do feel like we took a step back.

The episode starts with Juvie being made quarterback.  Then we cut to Becky/Tim’s place where Becky’s dad has returned home.  Obviously Becky’s mom is not pleased about this.  We also learn that it’s been 3 weeks since “Stay” and Matt has not talked to Julie since then and she’s pretty much gone insane.

She decides to sign up for every single activity, and signs Landry up for the “Academic Smackdown” with her.

The big story starts a little while later when after a practice the cops come to search Juvie’s locker for a gun.

Clearly this concerns Juvie, and Coach as well.  They find nothing but Coach knows something is up.  Also apparently Juvie’s mom is now clean suddenly?

I’m not sure what she was on but I’m pretty sure it takes more than your son becoming QB1 to kick it.  But she comes to see Coach and thank him.  So Coach is all invested now.

There’s also a whole plot about Luke not being able to go to school because he has to fix a fence.  I don’t know how long fixing a fence takes but apparently it’s a long time.  Eventually Tink, the fat kid, comes and helps and everything is better until:

They don’t elaborate on what his exact injuries are.  That will have to wait till next week.  Speaking of hospitals,  Mindy goes into early labor and they have to go to one.  This is a big problem because Billy doesn’t have insurance so he can’t pay for anything more than what he’d planned for, which is the birth.  She’s gonna need to be on bed rest for 2 more months.

So Billy and Tim go where they think best, The Landing Strip.  It’s lucky that one of Mindy’s stripper friends proposes a baby shower that will also be a fundraiser and have strippers.

Meanwhile Riggins finds out that Becky’s dad has another family in Seattle and he’s gonna break her heart when he goes and disappears.  By the way the caption on that picture is a real line of Tim dialogue later in the episode when he takes out his daddy issues on Becky’s dad.

Tammi is drunk.

Tammi has won old Dillon High a blue ribbon award which is apparently a big thing so this teacher dude takes her and some other teachers out for karaoke in an attempt to mouth rape her (true line of dialogue from him later on).

He also decides to sing the song from The Breakfast Club.  Anyway Tammi turns him away when he tries to kiss her and that’s about all there is to that story.

Trouble

Yeah.  So anyway Juvie’s friend who looks like he’s fresh from The Wire is at the baby shower and is gonna give Billy an opportunity to “make some real money”.  Oh Billy you are so stupid.  So very, very stupid.

Also Becky shows up and Riggins tells her about her dad and Seattle and she freaks out. This leads to the fight between Riggins and the dad, where Riggins pretty much almost kills the dude.  Obviously dad must go.

Let’s get back to Juvie though.  Coach has a few talks with him throughout the episode.  Clearly he knows Juvie has a gun (see title of episode), but Juvie won’t admit it and doesn’t trust him.  Until he decides he does and shows up at the Taylor household.

Coach faces a brief dilemma with what to do but decides to ultimately “make it disappear”.  I’m sure that’s not gonna come back and bite him on the ass.

Also there’s a plot about Landry going to meet Tyra at a rest stop where they’d apparently agreed to meet sometime ago but she doesn’t show and he realizes he has to move on so he asks out his crush and she says yes after some convincing.

And then there’s Julie.  She visits the Saracen household and finds out he’s been talking to them regularly.  This tears her up.  Then she gets in her car and finds a mix cd he made her.

I always though Matt had some horrible music tastes but she puts the cd on and it starts one of the most beautiful songs ever.  If you can identify it please comment with what it is.  Julie then heads to the Academic Smackdown where she totally breaks down while giving her answer.

Anyway the episode closes with some foreshadowing.  Riggins buys a dog and on his way home the dog has to go so he pulls over to the side of the road and lets the dog out into a field. A wonderful big open area of land….
